College.
Well well, its now 6weeks into the school term. I am now a year 9 at Te Awamutu College and finding it alright. I don’t like all the chewing gum stuck to the desks and rubbish in the school grounds, its pretty disgusting. But other than that its going good, I guess. Its a bit different to Intermediate, changing classes and all for each subject. Some of my teachers are pretty cool and then theres others with accents that you can’t understand, which gets a bit annoying. I’m finding alot of the work to be too easy (especially maths) as we already covered it at T.A.I. I’ve already started noticing attitude changes in fellow classmates, which is quite a shock, as I didn’t think they would, but I guess you never can tell can ya. I think my favourite class at College is P.E. We do quite fun stuff and you get a whole hour everyday except for on a Wednesday which is awesome! I got Junior Girls Athletics champ and went to Zones (Interschools) last Friday and won the triple jump, 2nd in 300m and 3rd in 100m and my team came 1st in the relay which means I get to go to Waikato Secondary School Champs on Saturday, but I think the competition there will be pretty hard. I’m doing a Triathlon at school next week along with 2 class mates Jayden (from room3) and another boy called Cassidy.
Well thats all from me for now.
Year Review.
Woah.. I haven’t written on my blog for ages and I am feeling kind of guilty so I thought I might write a year review.
Well I’ve been at Te Awamutu Intermediate for two years now, and now only have one more week left before I’m off to college in the new year (ahh scary).
This year has been jam-packed full of exciting opportunity’s for me to participate in. If I go back right to the start of the year, one of my first highlights was being selected to be Mangapikos House Captain; which throughout the year has been a great experience and has improved my leadership skills immensely. Another highlight was going on camp. We had such a fun time and learnt many interesting things about Egyptians and Parliament and heaps more. The next thing that I can remember was playing in the production band. That was hard work and quite fun.. well sort of! Another great time was running in the school cross country and coming 1st, very tiring but it was sooo worth it! And having the opportunity to attend ski camp and learn to ski. Its not as easy as it looks ya know.. and your bum gets mighty sore when you first begin. Haha. Moving on..another major thing was probably our school athletics day, even though I didn’t do as well as last year, it was still lots of fun and I got some placings. Something more recent, so recent as today, was going to Megazone and Ten Pin Bowling and then to Waterworld for a swim and a go on the new hydroslides. That was real cool and a great way to end the year. And between all these amazing things I also had the chance to represent the school in Touch, Netball, Cross Country, Athletics, Soccer, Basketball, Softball, Rugby and Wai Maths. I also was part of the school Symphonic Band and Jazz Band. And I also mangaed to keep up academically and hand in all my work which was especially hard over the netball season when representing Te Awamutu on Sundays.
There are still more things to look foward to in the coming week, such as the school Ball, which is only for year 8’s, and is said to be an awesome time. Plus Top Team, another competition between the four houses, so I will be leading Mangapiko house, sadly for the last time. And then finally on Friday will be prize giving, where I hope to be getting a prize!
So overall I have found my year to have been very busy, but also very fulfilling.
Thanks heaps T.A.I. I will remember these experiences forever.
Term 4 Goals
* Social Dance - I am going to try to become a better dancer, so I can have more fun at the ball. To do this I will try to keep in time and get the moves right when practicing.
* Physical Education - I am going to aim to be one of the Top 3 overall Athletics champions. To do this I will need to work hard at Physical Education lessons.
*Music - I am going to try and pass my saxophone exam with a good score. To do this I will have to practice my exam pieces in my spare time.
*Maths - I would like to improve in my statistical skills. To do this I will need to concentrate, when doing maths.
*Tip* and *Fact* of the Day!
TIP OF THE DAY- *Freckles* If you do not like your freckles, stay out of the sun; it darkens them. Don’t put lemon juice on them;it increases the skin’s sensitivity to the sun.
FACT OF THE DAY-*Seven Wonders of the World* The pyramids of Egypt, the oldest of the seven wonders of the ancient world, are the only one of those wonders to survive to the present day.
My Rubberband Ball.
So most people think I have decided to make a rubberband ball out of utter boredom but really its because I’ve always wanted one. At the moment its about the size of a tennis ball maybe a little bigger. I hope in 5 years its at least the size of a netball. But that will depend if I can get enough rubberbands big enough for it. Its bouncing quite high at the moment and it looks super cool. I find the coloured bands look the best at the moment but eventually the colour will fade and they’ll become an awful shade. Something strange is that whenever I tell someone what I’m making they laugh. Most likely that was your reaction too. I don’t see whats so funny, but you can laugh if you want. To help me create this magnificent ball you could donate some rubber bands to me
I would really appreciate that. I tried to upload a picture but I’m not quite sure how because the picture I’m uploading doesn’t have a URL or does it? So if you could help that would be nice!
Well thats my rubber band ball.

TIP OF THE DAY- *Hiccups* To get rid of hiccups lie down with your head tilted as far back as possible and your mouth open wide.
FACT OF THE DAY- *English Language* Very few words in the English language have the vowels in order. Those that do include ‘facetious’ and ‘arsenious’.
What is more secure a key or a lock?
A lock is more secure as it keeps you in and others out, whereas a key leads you to different and unknown places that can get you into strife.

Argument Writing
Zoos Are Not Necessary
The debate concerning whether animals should be kept in zoos or not has been around for decades. Greenpeace is just one of the many organisations apprehensive about the welfare of animals. I do not believe zoos should exist for the enjoyment of people and the opportunity for business.
To begin with I would like to say that most zoos have good intentions for why they hold animals captive, but the animals suffer when away from their natural habitat, some enclosures are small and not built well for a particular animal, I am certain that animals would become unhappy and depressed as it is a very unnatural environment for them to be held in. It’s fascinating to see birds of different breeds flying around but they are limited to a small aviary, and to them the outside world is visible but untouchable.
Another point is that zoos give the message that they are ok and it’s normal for an animal to be held captive, zoos provide a source of entertainment, with the animals as the stars, but the animals don’t get a choice if they want to even be part of an act. Seeing animals in a captive environment could encourage children to lock their own pets up, as they think this is the correct thing to do.
On the other hand zoos can be beneficial in the way that they can protect endangered species. The animals are unable to be attacked by humans or predators and when given the opportunity they can have off spring to continue their species. Although conserving animals this way can cause some problems it is better than not trying at all.
Finally, at least an animal in a zoo never has the worry of where they will get their next meal from, life is carefree, and they can eat without wondering if someone will leap out of the grass and attack them. Zoo animals are cared for, well fed and are even provided with intellectual toys to play with which prevents boredom. On a hot day, tigers are given large meat flavoured ice-blocks to lick at or a ball is given to the elephants for them to kick around, all their life comforts are given, on the whole it’s usually a happy existence for them.
In conclusion I believe that zoos are not necessary as they are removing the right of freedom from the animals. Animals should not be put on display for the enjoyment of humans. Animals should be returned to their natural environment and only viewed at Safari parks where they can run free.
Wai Maths
Last night I attended Wai Maths which is a problem solving competition to celebrate NZ Maths Week. Many schools throughout the Waikato send teams and there is a lot of tough competition to contend with. I was lucky enough to be selected to go from my school with 2 other boys in my class to represent Year 8 from my school. During the competition my team found that some of the questions were very hard but then there were also some very easy ones. Overall my team scored 41 points out of a possible 60, which was quite a good effort. When the results were announced we had only came 14th equal. We were a bit disappointed but we still had heaps of fun!
